A couple of days ago I heard an inspiring presentation from a team of my International Business Management class. They created a blog about clean energies, gathering a lot of information on different types of renewable energies, how to save energy by small actions and interesting political up-to-date facts. I am happy to see that there are people in the next potential business people generation that care about the environment and I have faith that a difference can be made. Thanks Clean-Energies-Team! Road Trip – The beginning!
29 06 2009
It’s almost done. In a couple of weeks I will be hitting the road! Starting in California my boyfriend and I will be traveling all the way down to Costa Rica. With only 4 weeks to travel and only one driver – I still refuse to get a driver’s license
– I am sure we will be constantly challenged. And as I won’t be able to send personal emails to all of my friends this is going to be the way to keep you guys updated. This way once a week you will know THAT I am still alive
I will also post information on every cool hostel we come across!

Ecotourism
28 06 2009This time I want to write about something that combines two things that I really care about; hostels and preserving the beauty of our world. I asked myself the following question: How can I travel on a low budget and at the same time make sure I leave the least possible impact on the environment? I found a website that offers information on ecotourism and helps you plan your next trip. So check this out before you hit the road next time:

Sustainability for our Children
21 06 2009„We are igniting a movement that inspires parents to protect young children from harmful chemicals.“
www.healthychild.org

The following website is – in my opinion – very helpful as it shows updated research and studies about organic food as well as tips on for example how to eat organically at a low cost. Even though it is mostly about how to protect your children from harmful chemicals there is also a lot of information on how to increase the sustainability of your lifestyle.
There are so many little things we can do. What do you say?

Summer in the City!
11 06 2009
Great Hostels cannot only be found at a beautiful beach. For those who enjoy culture, history and nightlife, in my opinion Berlin is a MUST! If you want to be in the city but still close to the water in a nice environment the next hostel I want to introduce to you is the place to be.
But this place is not only for people who are visiting Berlin, if you live here you can have a drink at their bar and meet international travelers enjoying the beauty of the city by night.
My personal recommendation: Sunday Brunch on the Terrace!

Surfing the couches of the world!
5 06 2009Have you ever found a really cheap flight to a place you would love to go but then you can’t because adding the cost of hostels, food etc. it becomes too expensive in the end?
Well, thanks to Casey Fenton, founder of CouchSurfing.org, those days are over! But couch surfing has more advantages; not only is it a free exchange of places to stay, it also gives you the unique opportunity of getting to know a place from a local’s perspective.
Want to be part of this great project? Check out: http://www.couchsurfing.org

Unpacked.org
4 06 2009Do you get annoyed with all the packaging that you throw away every day?
Unpackaged was founded in 2006 by Catherine Conway in the belief that there is a better way to sell food. Instead of recycling which she describes as “putting a band-aid” on the wound she decided to address the problem at its root!

Reminding ourselves!
24 05 2009Tourism has caused so much damage to our planet but there are alternative ways of enjoying the beauty of our nature.
Living in our society makes it easy to forget how much harm we are causing every day… That’s why I think it is important to remind ourselves from time to time that our everyday actions have consequences…

Clothing for a healthy world!
24 05 2009The more I think about what I want my future hostel to be like the more I realize that what I really want is a place that causes the least possible damage to our most precious gift: Nature!
That’s why I am going to focus on my category “Ideas for a healthy world” before posting more about hostels…
Here’s a quote that I found on patagonia.com and that best describes why I think this company is worth posting about:
“Our definition of quality includes a mandate for building products and working with processes that cause the least harm to the environment. We evaluate raw materials, invest in innovative technologies, rigorously police our waste and use a portion of our sales to support groups working to make a real difference. We acknowledge that the wild world we love best is disappearing. That is why those of us who work here share a strong commitment to protecting undomesticated lands and waters. We believe in using business to inspire solutions to the environmental crisis.”

Pick up 3 and the difference you will see!
8 05 2009Hey Guys,
I was talking to my boyfriend the other day about all the little projects that are going on in the world and that we don’t know of and he told me about this really cool kid from San Diego who had an inspiring thought. It is called „Pick up 3“ and encourages people to pick up only 3 peaces of trash every time they go to the beach. It’s simple and effective. I was overwhelmed; especially because it is amazing to me that such a young boy (he was only 12 at the time) cares so much about the environment that he created his own NPO… That’s why I really wanted to share this with you, so please check out his video and website…
